Roullete, which is French for roulette, has offered glamour and mystery to casino-goers since the 17th century. It’s easy enough for beginners to understand but offers a surprising depth of strategy for serious betters. Before you make a bet, decide how much money you want to invest in the game. Each table carries a placard describing the minimum and maximum bets allowed. Choose one that is within your budget and avoid using strategies like the Martingale or Fibonacci systems, which require large bankrolls. You can use these strategies to improve your odds of winning, but don’t expect them to give you a 100% win rate.

Once you’ve decided on your bet, place your chips on the table and tell the dealer what value you want each chip to have. She will then give you coloured roulette chips worth that amount. If you want your chips to be worth PS20, for example, tell the dealer and she will give you 20 chips of that colour.

After you’ve placed your bets, the croupier will spin the wheel and throw a ball into it. If your bet wins, you’ll be paid out according to the betting odds. You can bet on individual numbers, groups of numbers (first, second or third dozen), red or black, high or low, odd or even.
